150 teachers graduate from the British Council
At least 150 teachers will receive the Academic Language Support Programme (ALP) certificates after successfully completing the three phases of the programme, which is designed to improve the capacity for maths and science teachers in independent schools to teach their subjects in the English medium
160 researchers attend the second Action Research Conference
More than one hundred researchers from various organizations presented findings of their work at the one-day Second Annual Action Research Conference organized by the College of Education at Qatar University (QU) in collaboration with the Education Institute.
Eighty-five teaching assistants graduate
The Education Institute held a graduation ceremony for 85 Cohort 2 teachers who completed a full year teaching assistant program at Qatar University. The event was attended by Ms. Sabah Al Haidoos, director, Prof. Hessa Sadeq, Dean of the Faculty of Education and Mr. Khalid Al Harqan, assistant director, Education Institute, graduates and their parents.
Wireless networks at Independent Schools
The IT department of the SEC has linked all the independent schools with a broadband wireless Internet connection to enable teachers and students to access to K-net which provides teaching and learning resources.
Excellence awards nominations to begin in July
The Education Excellence Day Committee will begin receiving nominations for excellence awards from July until September 17, 2009. Many schools, teachers and students participated in the introductory meeting held at the Four Seasons, Doha to discuss the requirements of the event. Selection for the best candidates will begin in mid October and winners will be awarded on November 11, 2009.

Hamza honors young cleric
The management of Hamza School honored Osama Imad El-Din Nasr for obtaining the first position in the preparatory and secondary level in field activities organized by Hamad bin Abdullah School.
“Million Mus’haf” campaign at Umm Al-Qura
As part of its campaign to collect a million mus’haf, Umm Al Qura School donated a large number of Quran to the organization of Islamic Da’wa. The school has received many Quran form other schools since beginning its campaign at the beginning of this academic year.
“Young teacher" in Ibn Khaldoun
Motivated by the desire to enrich the knowledge of students and working to refine their talents and skills, Ibn Khaldoun School held a lesson entitled “Young teacher” where a student explained the lesson to the class and held a Q & A session and discussion with colleagues later.
Extending a hand to the community
In its effort to promote community participation, Nasser Al Attiya School in close collaboration with Reach Out To Asia (ROTA) organized a volunteer workshop at Dhreima (Orphans Foundation).
Expo at Al Khaleej Al-Arabi
Alia Al Kholaifi, principal of Al Khaleej Al Arabi School recently inaugurated festival and expo entitled “Jerusalem, the capital of the Arabic culture for 2009” organized by the science department in the school.
