The Community College of Qatar (CCQ), opens in September 2010 to meet the current and emergent Qatar educational and labor market needs.   Qatar embarks on the exciting CCQ initiative as part of the 2030 Vision to provide students with solid post-secondary education and critical job training to complete either a University Bachelor’s Degree or a Career in a growing Qatar industry upon graduation.

The “two-year college” community college concept for alternative path to university studies for students after high school graduation has roots in other countries under differing names. The CCQ will adopt key educational and curricular innovations that will suit the educational, social and workforce ethos of Qatar while staying true to our own unique cultural identity and values.

In preparation of the September 2010 CCQ opening, steps are being taken to remodel the provisional campus on C Ring Road and to work on collaborative agreements with international colleges for quality and accredited curriculum and programming. The CCQ will be accepting first applications from interested students beginning 14-15 June 2010 at the Higher Education Institute (HEI) Open House. Public announcements will be made in the Qatar media and Independent Schools for potential students and interested guests to attend the Open House scheduled at the Four Seasons Hotel and explore program requirements and admissions procedures. Following the HEI Open House, students will be able to complete CCQ Application for Orientation and Assessment time in June and July.

CCQ is planning for 300 students when it opens its doors later this year. It is anticipated that following Orientation and Placement, students will be placed in core courses for University transfer in English, Math, Sciences, Social Sciences and Humanities; English and Math courses to prepare for core University courses; Career courses for students who need a job or a better job and courses scheduled part-time for students who are working but would also like to go to college to update their knowledge.

The CCQ will also provide short-term Certificates and Training Courses, specialized training needed for industry jobs and foundation coursework in English, Math and computing.
CCQ Applicants will take placement exams in English and Math, to make sure that students are placed and enroll in courses and programs in which they will be successful.
