The Supreme Education Council announces names of outstanding achievers
The Education Excellence Day (EED) Board of Trustees chaired by HE Saad Bin Ibrahim Al Mahmoud, Secretary General of the Supreme Education Council and Minister of Education confirmed the names of 18 winners of the EED award for the academic year 2008/9. The winners will be honored in a grand ceremony, which HH the Heir Apparent Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani and high-ranking officials will attend on November 11, 2009 at the Four Seasons Hotel.
“The EED reflects the vision of the wise leadership of investing in human resources,” said HE Al Mahmoud. “Committees were formed following directives by HH Sheikha Mozah Bint Nasser Al Missned, Vice Chair of the Supreme Education Council to develop the award criteria that encourage individuals and institutions to work hard and strive for excellence.”
Held under the patronage of HH Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani, the event will honor 10 high school graduates, 4 university graduates, 2 PhD holders, one teacher and one school. Three awards – outstanding teacher in preparatory and secondary and the scientific research by a high school graduate - were withdrawn as no candidates met the stringent criteria.
In addition to receiving a certificate of excellence the rewards of the winning categories of the EED Award shall be as follows:
Secondary School Graduates:
Top graduates – Platinum medal, QR35000
Second tier – Gold medal, QR 25000
University Graduates:
Top graduates – Platinum medal, QR45000
Second tier – Gold medal, QR35000
PhD Holders:
Platinum medal, QR 60000
Exemplary Teachers:
Platinum medal, QR60000
Exemplary School:
Gold medal, QR100000 (50% shall be allocated to the school fund the other %0% distributed among the teaching administrative staff)
Exemplary Secondary School Scientific Research
Gold medal, QR20000
Now in its fourth year, the Education Excellence Day demonstrates Qatar’s commitment to education and the nation’s leaders’ recognition that the development of knowledge-based society is essential to the achievement of its ambitious goals.
The Education Excellence Day Board of Trustees developed the guidelines and policy for the awards and has the ultimate authority in selecting the honorees. The Board reports directly to Office of HH the Heir Apparent. HE Saad Bin Ibrahim Al Mahmoud chairs the Board.
