About EED Award
Education Excellence Day recognizes the high achievements of students, teachers, schools and researchers in the State of Qatar and publicly celebrates their accomplishments. Education Excellence Day carries on the tradition of celebratating academic success that began under what was formerly known as Education Day 44 years ago.
Qatar 's leadership recognizes the importance of education to the nation's ambitious goals of becoming a more open, democratic society with a diversified and vibrant economy. His Highness the Heir Apparent Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani, the Chairperson for the Supreme Education Council (SEC) underscores Qatar 's commitment to developing a world-class education system that promotes research and fosters critical thinking. This commitment stems from a deep-rooted belief that Qatari workforce is precious and must be well qualified to meet the challenges of the 21st century. Furthermore, it demonstrates the country's commitment to establishing a knowledge-based society and honoring the value of education and learning. And as His Highness once stated: “Education is the top priority of the State” [Janet: I'm not sure where that quotation ends. I guessed it ended after the word “state.” AMB] Thus, Qatar has invested heavily in the education sector, forming the Supreme Education Council to develop the education system and thus a highly-skilled workforce to meet the requirements of our increasingly modern society. All this was accomplished as per the wise vision of His Highness the Prince of Qatar.
The celebration of Education Excellence Day aims to promote the culture of excellence and scientific distinction that will lead to better educational outputs and help supply our economy with a workforce qualified to lead it. It will also encourage academic institutions to improve their performance.
