Al Wakra goes digital

This year, 200 seventh grade students from Al-Wakra Independent School for Girls will receive the e-Schoolbags to be used inside the classrooms and continue to interact with their respective teachers from home. The e-Schoolbag package comprises a Tablet PC which allows the students to take notes using the digital inking technology, share and edit information electronically, and will include e-content on science, math and English based on Qatar’s Curriculum Standards which will be used by teachers. Teachers will be able customize and add their own materials to suit the need of their students. The e-Schoolbags will gradually be introduced to other grades every year.

Mrs. Amna Khalifa Sharbak, the school operator, expressed her joy after her school was selected “I am excited as Al Wakra School is the only school in Qatar that will adopt this system. We will begin the seventh graders but next year, other grades will be incorporated.”

Ms. Christine Nagarian, an English teacher says the e-Schoolbag will help students enjoy the education process in non-traditional way, and will promote the collective efforts of the student.

“It will contribute to increasing the students’ motivation and creativity, and give students the chance to share information and communicate in a better way with their teachers,” says Mary Gross a Math teacher at the school.

IctQATAR entered into a strategic partnership with the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA) to introduce this innovative project in Qatari schools and provide local educators with the opportunity to gain knowledge of Singapore’s leading experience in ICT development.
