Doha • The First Conference of Arab Expatriate Scientists (QFIRST 2007) concluded here yesterday with H H Sheikha Mozah bint Nasser Al Missned ratifying three major initiatives proposed by the conference in the field of environment, biomedical and Computer & Information Science. She reaffirmed her personal commitment to follow-up and promote the three proposed world-class research institutes — Qatar Institute of Biomedical Research (QIBR), Qatar Integrated Institute for Environmental Research (QIIER) and Al Khwarizmi Institute for Computer & Information Science & Engineering. “Qatar has always believed that it is politically committed to the promotion of scientific research’ and in fact, it is His Highness’s vision to shape up a modern Qatar through scientific advancements. Scientific research in this sense is an element with a mission closely related to education and economic development. They all lead to the fulfillment of the sublime goal — the development of mankind”, she said addressing 400-odd Arab expatriate scientists who put their heads together to fine tune the proposals to set up the multi-million riyal institutions in Qatar, during the last three days. Sheikha Mozah who said that Qatar considers allocation of funds to scientific research as very important, added that the country feels it is equally important to attract a competent team of scientists. Laying emphasis on building a partnership with the experts in the country’s sustainable development ambition, Sheikha Mozah said: “Through our constructive partnership, we have together succeeded in building up the trust that is required; and it has paved the way to the announcement of the launch of scientific programmes in areas of great importance such as Information Technology, oncology, and functional neurological diseases, water resource, urban development and the environment. I would like to reaffirm my personal commitment to follow-up and promote these programmes.” Sheikha Mozah who said that Qatar is committed to create a right environment for the new initiative told the scientific community they can readily repose their faith on her. “I hope we can all work together for realizing a bigger dream and to tackle the issues lying ahead”. |
