At least 200 students from around the world are taking part in a two day Al Fakhoora Campaign International Students Conference which was launched at the Marriott Hotel on Saturday, January 16, 2010.

Students from Qatar, Palestine, Egypt, UAE, the UK and USA are participating in the conference entitled “Post Cast Lead: Defending the Freedom to Learn” which focuses on the challenges and right to education in Gaza and the West Bank.

Al Fakhoora Campaign aims to protect and expand educational opportunities for children and students in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, and build on the power of student support across the globe. Al Fakhoora is an international advocacy campaign launched in January 2009 by Qatar students with the support of H.H. Sheikha Mozah Bint Nasser Al Missned, UNESCO Special Envoy for Basic and Higher Education.

Al Fakhoora campaign was named after the United Nations Relief Works Agency (UNRWA) school of the same name, Al Fakhoora, which was bombed during last year's Israeli aggression in Gaza. The campaign also launched a television channel on January 16, 2009 that carried the campaign's name, and with only six days being aired, the channel was able to raise funds of more than QR. 398 million to support education in the Gaza Strip.
