HE Saad bin Ibrahim Al-Mahmoud, Minister of Education and Higher Education and Secretary General of the Supreme Education Council (SEC) headed a delegation to attend the 7th Conference of Arab Ministers of Education, which opened on Sunday, March 7, 2010 in the Omani capital, Muscat. The delegation included the Undersecretary Rabia Al-Kaabi and a number of experts and consultants. The Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO) organized the two-day conference hosted by the Ministry of Education in Oman. The theme this year was "Post basic education, reforms and setting up of its streams."

The conference aims to enhance education in the Arab world. It shed light on various issues such as the current situation of post basic education and ways of developing secondary education, enhancing education to meet the needs of society, criteria of quality assurance in post basic education, frameworks of post basic (secondary) education in the world. The conference also dealt with moving forward with secondary education reform: issues, challenges and proposals.

The conference discussed in depth issues related to restructuring the secondary education system. Participants presented and discussed analytical studies on the current situation in the Arab world and the different models of secondary education around the world focusing on teachers and their development.

Experts met prior to the meeting to discuss a number of important issues on educational studies of secondary education in the Arab world. The meetings merged a group of proposals and decisions to be submitted to the Ministers.
The main document was based on the educational development plan and the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO) reports on academic requirements in areas like math, literature, technology, and languages.

The conference program included a number of sessions in which participants appointed the chair, the deputy chair, and the moderator. The first session discussed the Organization's General Manager's report about the Sixth meeting's proposals. The second session discussed the final report and the next meeting's venue and time.
