The SEC takes part in “Healthy steps to Doha”

The Supreme Education Council (SEC) participated in the national program “Healthy Steps to Doha” initiated by the Supreme Council for Health to help increase health awareness and combat child obesity in schools. Ruqaya Independent Preparatory School for Girls, Abu Obaida Independent Preparatory School for Boys and Al Jazeera Academy participated in the six-week program.

The Education Institute director, Ms Sabah Al-Haidoos commended the efforts of the independent school officials for participating in the program and creating a healthy environment for children.

During her address, Ms. Al-Haidoos stressed the need to incorporate health programs that allow students make healthy choices through out their lives. She expressed appreciation to HE the Minister of Education for supporting initiatives that help enhance partnerships with the community. She also praised the Supreme Council for Health for its efforts to include students in these valuable programs.

The program “Healthy Steps to Doha” aims to support teachers to teach students about nutrition science and the healthy food that promotes healthy body and mind. It also aims to encourage students to adopt a healthy lifestyle by eating healthy and frequent exercising. Parents are also encouraged to follow suit and support their children choose to live better and healthier lifestyles.

Schools are urged to begin the program in their kindergartens so that children grow up with healthy knowledge. Three schools participated in the first health festival organized by the Supreme Council for Health. The program lasted for six weeks during which numerous events were organized and calculated into healthy steps to reach Doha and compete with other schools around the globe.

Eman Al-Emadi from the SEC was appointed to supervise the activities in the schools and coordinate with the Supreme Council for Health. “Working with the schools in this event has been interesting and useful.”
