HE Saad bin Ibrahim Al Mahmoud, Minister of Education and Higher Education and Secretary General of Supreme Education Council (SEC) issued a decision to form committee to review student applications of those who wish to pursue a teaching career in the programs offered by the SEC in collaboration with Qatar University.

The role of the committee is to review application, select students who meet the criteria and send the list of names to the SEC's Human Resources Department within two weeks to finalize the procedures and sign contracts with the applicants.

Heading the committee is Ms. Hessa Al Ali, Director, Scholarship Office- Higher Education Institute, and members are Ms. Fawzia Al Naimah
Director, Advising and Career Center and Mr. Essa Al Hor, Manager, Human Resources Unit, SEC and Ms. Noora Zayed Dawood, career development officer.

In March 2010, HE Al Mahmoud and Dr. Sheikha Abdulla Al Misnad, president of Qatar University signed an agreement for the adoption of high school graduates to join the teaching profession. The strategic partnership is part of the SEC’s continuous efforts to improve teacher quality, create capacity building and encourage Qatari graduates to become teachers in the independent schools through their enrollment in the Bachelor of Primary Education program offered by the Faculty of Education at Qatar university.

According to the agreement, the SEC will provide scholarships to 300 secondary school Qatari female graduates to enroll in the four specializations - Arabic Studies (Arabic language, Islamic Studies and Social Studies); Math and Science; English and; Early Childhood - in the Bachelor of Primary Education program at QU. In addition, the SEC will provide the prospective students a monthly stipend of not less than QR7000 during the four-year study. Training contracts will be signed between the trainees and the SEC in accordance with the policies and regulations.

The Bachelor of Primary Education program has been designed in alignment with the National Professional Standards for Teachers and Leaders and Qatar’s national teachers certification programs. The program is offered by the College of Education at Qatar University. The mission of this program is to produce teachers who have the knowledge, skills, and dispositions to transform the vision of Qatar’s education reform.
