The Community College in Qatar (CCQ) Scholarship and Sponsorship Department hosted a luncheon at the Four Seasons Hotel on 7-June-2011 with representatives of Qatari businesses, Ministries, Banks, and Industries to establish a sponsorship and educational program to provide opportunities for CCQ students and company employees at CCQ.

senior officials of the college including Dr. Ibrahim Al-Naimi, CCQ Project Manager, Dr. Judith Hansen, CCQ Dean, dean assistants, CCQ teaching staff, and students have attended the meeting.

CCQ administration has provided an overview of the college programs, admission and registration process as well as present an outline of the sponsorship plan and application procedures. The meeting aimed to establish a starting dialogue with the concerned parties on sponsoring CCQ students and providing educational opportunities through adopting flexible working policies and procedures to allow employee students continue their studies at the College and achieve academic success. The meeting also aimed to build awareness on the role of the college in Qatar in helping the sponsored students to register in the field of studies which supports future development and training.

The goal of this meeting is to ensure the college establishes effective processes, procedures and a strong education that meet everyone’s needs and which will provide opportunities for growth and development to current CCQ students.

In her opening speech at the meeting, CCQ Dean, Dr. Judith Hansen, confirmed that CCQ is a Qatari College aimed to serve the Qatari community. She stressed on the need to overcome all the challenges to enable the Qatari students to continue their studies at the College. Dr. Judith said “ there are many employee students who are currently studying at the College on the evening classes and some are full time students”.

She added that “two third of the number of students enrolled in the college are female students and the one third are males”. She hoped that “the meeting will merge with a vision that will support the students to join the College and effectively contribute in the development of the country”.

On his part, Dr. Ibrahim Al-Naimi, demonstrated the College vision, which encourages the Qatar youths to pursue their higher education at the college in various educational programs. Al-Naimi stated that “the mission of the College is to effectively respond to the community requirements for education and training in partnership with the various sectors to achieve the country’s national vision 2030. Students will be provided with various programs to continue their higher education.”

In the light of the College vision, Dr. Alnaimi confirmed that the sponsoring representatives will benefit from the free educational opportunities which the College provides for the students in Qatar in terms of the highly professional teaching staff and the best quality of the curricula.

In his presentation, the Assistant Dean for Student Affairs, Dr. Abdulnassir Al-Tamimi, detailed the Student Sponsorship Procedures and the Sponsorship Agreement which will be signed by the College , the Sponsoring party and the student.

Dr. Al-Tamimi confirmed that the partnership with the local business and ministries will enhance students’ development and maintain continuous relationship between the two parties to achieve Qatar’s objectives. He said “the College considered the students’ comfortable educational environment and set procedures with the employers so that the students may have flexible attendance time table at their employment and are offered holidays during tests to continue their courses”.

Representing the students at the meeting, student Hamad Al-Marri, a scholarship student from “Qatar Olympic Committee” who is studying Marketing and Public Relations at CCQ, said in his speech “the sponsoring program helped me to concentrate in my studies and excel my average grades to excellent scores. I suggest that the Sponsoring institutions shall offer the students enough time to attend classes.” Al-Marri, who was awarded a number of sports’ medals at Championships, said “the educational achievements require a lot of time for preparation and also needs students’ punctuality in class rooms”. He urged his colleagues to attend classes daily to obtain achievements. He expressed his gratitude for the Community College of Qatar which contributed in the upgrading of the students’ education and supported their career opportunities. Al-Marri confirmed that the College helped him to achieve the changes he needed in his life and developed his English language level.

The Sponsoring representatives praised the College officials for their efforts and described the meeting as constructive. They jointly agreed that the Sponsoring Agreement will help to achieve the training and Qatarization policy adopted in their Departments.
