Scholarship Programs The Higher Education Institute (HEI) of the Supreme Education Council today announced a new series of scholarship programs for Qatari students. Six scholarship programs are being offered for academic year 2005-06, and the number will increase to nine next year. These programs are designed to make it possible for Qatari citizens to pursue their aspirations for college and careers by studying at some of the highest quality and most prestigious universities in the world. The six scholarship programs are being administered by the HEI and are available to students as well as working professionals who are within five years of their high school graduation. Considered an important part of Qatar’s comprehensive education reform effort, these programs not only provide a valuable opportunity for individuals to update their skills and upgrade their careers, but will also encourage lifelong learning. “The people of Qatar are truly our nation’s greatest asset, and we need to invest in their future. These scholarship programs will give them the chance to excel in their chosen fields, especially those critical to Qatar’s labor market,” said Dr. Jehan Al-Meer, Director of the Higher Education Institute. The following Scholarship Programs are being offered: Emiri, National, Employee, Diploma, Pre-College Grant, and previous scholarship program. The Higher Education Institute was established in September 2005 with the goal of motivating students to achieve educational excellence. It is working in concert with the SEC’s Education and Evaluation Institutes to establish an education continuum that provides support to students from kindergarten through college.
