DOHA — A conference of expatriate Arab scientists — working across the world — was opened in Doha yesterday by Her Highness Shaikha Mozah bint Nasser Al Misnad, wife of the Amir and Chairperson of the Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development. Listen The three-day conference, ‘Intelligencia Qatar’ (IQ) is part of an initiative to explore ways of directing their expertise, and that of their colleagues, back towards the Arab world. ‘Intelligencia Qatar’ will discuss ways aimed at establishing partnership with expatriate Arab scientists for the benefit of Arab societies. It also aims to formulate a project or projects in keeping with urgent needs of society in terms of scientific development to meet the challenges of the world. The idea is to create a partnership between the Arab scientists and the Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development through which Qatar’s scientific research and development can be developed. Dr Abdulla Alkubaisi, director of Shaikha Mozah's Office, says the conference is the first step towards tackling the issue of how to tap the Arab intellectual resources spread across the world for the development of the Arab region in general, and Qatar in particular. |
