The SEC blog gives all the stakeholders the opportunity to express their opinions about their work in the Independent Schools, and commenting on what's new in Qatar education reform initiative "Education for a New Era" in a democratic dialogue which reflects the transparency policy of the SEC, and provide continuous feed back that reveals the responses of the stakeholders regarding the education reform issues in general, and the policies and procedures taken by the SEC in particular.

The blog raises one of the current issues, which is of great interest to many of the stakeholders whether they are employees, parents or students. Any visitor to the blog, can post his own comments without any moderation, except for some special cases where intervention is necessary to modify some posts. Users often choose nicknames, as they do not need to register their real names.

The latest blog topic asked visitors how involved parents were in their children’s learning. It clearly shows that parents need to be involved in their children’s learning from birth through to their teenage years and beyond. Here are some of the highlights:

“I do not have my own children yet but the most important thing my parents did for me was reading with me. Instead of just reading the stories and lessons, they helped me learn the words by pointing to each line as they spoke it. If a student can read before they even enter school, they will have a great advantage for their entire education,” says one college graduate.

“So much emphasis is put on what parents should be doing once their children are in school, when by far the greatest contribution that parents can make is before their children set foot in any educational unit… We must help the parents find the joy of reading to their children as experienced by the previous blogger - there is so much that can and needs to be done” says Lorraine

“I agree with Lorraine, there is so much the parent can do before the child even goes to school… Reading to children from an early age is so important to build their language skills and to instill in them a love of books,” says Kim
