The Education Excellence Day (EED) Organizing Committee begun receiving applications for the excellence awards from July 1, 2009 and will continue through until September 17, 2009. The awards recognize outstanding achievement in different categories including: high school graduates; teachers – outstanding teachers; schools – outstanding school; research project by high school students; university graduates and; PhD. holders. Qatar will hold its annual Education Excellence Day to honour high achievement in education on November 11, 2009, under the auspices of HH the Heir apparent Sheikh Tamim bin Hamda Al Thani.

Education Excellence Day illustrates the commitment of Qatar’s leadership to education and its recognition that developing a knowledge-based society is fundamental to the nation achieving its ambitious goals.

The Public Relations Office at Qatar University will receive applications from its students while graduates from the Education City campus, The College of the North Atlantic and universities abroad submit their applications to the Higher Education Institute of the Supreme Education Council (SEC) on “C” Ring Road.

All candidates applying for awards under the high school, scientific research, outstanding school and outstanding teacher categories should hand in their applications to their respective schools, which will subsequently submit to the Office of Communications of the SEC on “E” Ring Road. The Ministry of Education and Higher Education and private schools must submit their applications to the Public Relations Office (19th floor) at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education building on the Corniche.

All PhD holders will nominate themselves and submit their applications to the Office of Communications at the SEC.

“A high calibre committee comprising a team of experts will begin sorting and evaluating the applications in mid-October and winners will be announced during a press conference before the main event on November 11, 2009,” said Dr. Nawal Al Sheikh, manager, Office of Communications of the SEC.

The EED awards aim to honour and celebrate the success of Qataris who show academic excellence; promote and encourage excellence among all people and organizations; support positive initiatives in knowledge and scientific research and; encourage innovation amongst students, researchers and educational organizations.

The EED executive committee is calling on all the categories who meet the criteria and the conditions for an award to collect the nomination forms and accurately complete them to facilitate the evaluation process.

Platinum medal awardees in the high school graduate category will receive a financial reward of QR 35,000 while gold medallist will receive QR 25,000. Outstanding university graduates will receive a financial reward of QR 45,000 (Platinum medal) while gold medal recipients will be rewarded QR 35,000. PhD holders will receive a platinum medal, an excellence certificate and a financial reward of QR 60,000.

The outstanding school will receive QR 100,000 (50% would be allocated to the school and 50% to the administration and teaching staff), an excellence certificate and a gold medal. The Outstanding teacher would receive a platinum medal, an excellence certificate plus QR 60,000. The outstanding research by a high school student will be awarded gold medal, excellence certificate and a financial reward of QR 20,000.

The EED which Qatar will celebrate in November for the fourth consecutive year, crowns the achievements of Qatar’s people who proved themselves and their academic excellence.

Completed applications and nominations must be submitted by September 17, 2009.
