About 280 independent, semi-independent, private, and international schools in Qatar are taking part in the ongoing National Day festivities. At least 300 students are expected to join in the celebrations with a march on the Doha Corniche on December 18, 2009.

Mr. Abdul Aziz Al Sayed, the educational sector coordinator for the National Day celebrations announced that all schools would organize festivals to commemorate the occasion. Each school is expected to organize its own activities including traditional shows like the “Ardhah,” educational, cultural and sports competitions. Brochures including the story of the founder of the State of Qatar will be distributed to brief the audience about his life and the history of Qatar.

Mr. Al-Sayed stated that the educational activities include an event on December 16 to honor the winners of the drawing competition in which 10 top students achieved the first prizes. The drawings will be shown on the Commercial Bank building on the Corniche. Paintings by another 130 students will also be on at the same time.

“Celebrating the National Day aims to help youth understand and maintain national identity, the culture, and the traditions of the country in the name of the lifelong loyalty and unity.
