At least 200 students from around the world are taking part in a two day Al Fakhoora Campaign International Students Conference which was launched at the Marriott Hotel on Saturday, January 16, 2010. Students from Qatar, Palestine, Egypt, UAE, the UK and USA are participating in the conference entitled “Post Cast Lead: Defending the Freedom to Learn” which focuses on the challenges and right to education in Gaza and the West Bank.

HE Mr. Saad Bin Ibrahim Al Mahmoud, Minister of Education and Higher Education and Secretary General of the Supreme Education Council issued a decision to form a standing committee for school canteens under the chairmanship of the Director of Shared Services Administration.

Social sciences also develop an individual's awareness of his/her social role and rights as well awareness of what is happening in the community and the world at large whether it is political, economical or cultural.

The Minister of Education and Higher Education and Secretary General of the SEC Mr. Saad Bin Ibrahim Al-Mahmoud honored 198 students for their outstanding performance in all the school stages at the Ritz Carlton on Tuesday, December 15, 2009. The award comes as part of the National Day celebrations.

About 280 independent, semi-independent, private, and international schools in Qatar are taking part in the ongoing National Day festivities. At least 300 students are expected to join in the celebrations with a march on the Doha Corniche on December 18, 2009.

HE Saad Bin Ibrahim Al Mahmoud met on Monday, November 23, 2009 with the Dutch Ambassador to Qatar. During the meeting, the two parties discussed the bilateral relations and ways to improve them. HE the ambassador expressed his admiration of the progress of education in Qatar and briefed the minister about the educational system in Holland.

HE Saad bin Ibrahim Al Mahmoud, the Minister of Education and Higher Education and Secretary General of the Supreme Education Council is taking part in the 35th session of UNESCO's general conference. The meet began on Monday, October 5, 2009 at the UNESCO headquarters in Paris and will continue till Friday, October 23, 2009.

HH Sheikha Mozah bint Nasser al Missned - Chairperson of the Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development and UNESCO Special Envoy for Basic and Higher Education – on Wednesday, October 7, 2009, delivered a rousing plea at UNESCO for the right of children everywhere to benefit from quality basic education. Addressing the 35th session of UNESCO’s General Conference, the Organization’s highest governing body, Sheikha Mozah declared that "depriving children of the right to education is depriving them of the right to live."
