Fifteen schools evaluated in triennial reviews
The Schools Evaluation Office of the Evaluation Institute has completed periodic reviews of 15 Cohort IV and a number of Cohort I independent schools. Triennial School Reviews (TSR) identify schools’ achievements, strengths and weaknesses and areas that may require attention and improvement since their inception.

The Supreme Education Council (SEC) held a media briefing at the SEC building in Dafna to announce the launch of the Community College of Qatar. When the new college opens its doors in September 2010, 300 students will take advantage of a new educational opportunity. Students will be able to earn a certificate or a two-year Associates degree in a select number of fields critical to Qatar’s economic growth.

The Evaluation Institute of the Supreme Education Council is set to begin administration of the sixth annual Qatar Comprehensive Educational Assessment (QCEA) from Sunday, May 9 until Thursday, June 3, 2010.

The Evaluation Institute of the Supreme Education Council is set to administer the annual Qatar Senior School Certificate (QSSC) exit examinations for twelfth graders from May 27 to June 8, 2010 in all the independent schools across the country. The QSSC is the official national certificate issued to students on completion of Grade 12 studies at independent schools in Qatar. It is endorsed and approved by the Secretary-General of the SEC.

Saad bin Ibrahim Al Mahmoud, Minister of Education has issued a ministerial decision on the time schedule of study, examinations and holidays for the independent schools for the academic year 2010-2011. According to the decision, the academic year 2010/2011 for the independent and evening schools, teachers and students at all stage levels will begin on Sunday, September 19, 2010. Mr. Saad Bin Ibrahim Al-Mahmoud, Minister of Education and Higher Education and Secretary General of the Supreme Education Council paid a visit to Khalifa Independent Secondary School for Boys where he met the school operator Mr. Jamal Al Jaber, senior management and students. The minister was briefed on the new secondary school system, and discussed the challenges facing secondary schools and means of resolving them. The Supreme Education Council is exerting every effort to set effective systems and policies for private schools to meet its standards. The efforts commenced with the issuance of Emiri Decree # 14 for the year 2009 stating that all private schools fall under the umbrella of the SEC. Consequently HE Saad Al Mahmoud, the Minister of Education and Higher Education and Secretary General of the SEC issued decision # 8 for the year 2009 to oblige private schools to several rules and regulations
