Doha, Qatar (June 6, 2004) – The Supreme Education Council today signed agreements with the school operators who will be responsible for running the 12 new Independent Schools scheduled to open for the first time in September. The signing of the agreements marks another milestone in Qatar’s sweeping K-12 (kindergarten through 12th grade) education reform effort called “Education for a New Era.” The list of approved operators and the schools they will run for the 2004-05 academic year is attached

The scoring of the essay portion of the first Qatar Comprehensive Educational Assessment was recently completed by the Supreme Education Council’s (SEC) Evaluation Institute, marking the forward progress of Qatar’s comprehensive reform effort known as “Education for a New Era.” Approximately 60,000 essay exams were scored between April 14-30.

For the first time, the parents of school children throughout Qatar are being asked for their thoughts and opinions about the State’s school system and the quality of education being provided. This effort is an essential part of Education for a New Era, the Qatar education reform initiative.

The Qatar Comprehensive Educational Assessment begins at 4 April, 2004 at secondary schools through out Qatar.
