42 high achieving Gulf students receive regional awards


Forty-two primary, preparatory and secondary school students from Gulf member states were honored at the 4th Arab Bureau of Education for the Gulf States celebration held at Grand Regency Hotel in Doha on Monday, March 15, 2010. The event was jointly organized by the Arab Bureau of Education for the Gulf States and the Supreme Education Council (SEC) and was sponsored by Al Marai company.

The SEC and QU sign accord to attract high school graduates to teaching profession

HE Mr. Saad bin Ibrahim Al Mahmoud, Minister of Education and Higher Education and Secretary General of the Supreme Education Council (SEC) and Dr. Sheikha Abdulla Al Misnad, president of Qatar University (QU) signed an agreement for the adoption of high school graduates to join the teaching profession.

Stipulations on school fee hike

The Education Institute announced that it would continue receiving applications for school tuition and other fees increment for the academic year 2010/2011 until March 31, 2010. According to a memo sent out by the Education Institute, all the owners and principals of private kindergartens and schools must complete a form available at www.english.education.gov.qa requesting fee hike but must submit justification and reasons.

The SEC is diamond sponsor of the Qatar Career Fair


The Supreme Education Council (SEC) is the diamond sponsor of the annual Qatar Career Fair which is jointly organized by Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development, Qatar Petroleum, Qatar University and Ministry of Labor. Held under the auspices of HH Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani, the Heir Apparent, this year's fair will be held at the Qatar International Exhibition Centre from March 14 - 18, 2010 under the slogan 'Discover today to succeed tomorrow.'

Minister attends education meet in Muscat

HE Saad bin Ibrahim Al-Mahmoud, Minister of Education and Higher Education and Secretary General of the Supreme Education Council (SEC) headed a delegation to attend the 7th Conference of Arab Ministers of Education, which opened on Sunday, March 7, 2010 in the Omani capital, Muscat. The theme this year was "Post basic education, reforms and setting up of its streams."

Schools and Schooling in Qatar 2008-09 report released

The fifth annual report on schools and schooling in Qatar was released today by Mrs Aysha Al-Hashemi, Director of the School Evaluation Office of the Supreme Education Council’s Evaluation Institute. She described the report as “providing a statistical overview of many important aspects of Qatar’s school education for the 2008-2009 school year as well selected comparative data covering the 2004 to 2009 period.

Education Minister meets British ambassador


HE Mr. Saad Bin Ibrahim Al Mahmoud, Minister of Education and Higher Education and Secretary General of the Supreme Education Council met with the United Kingdom's ambassador to the State of Qatar on Tuesday, March 2, 2010. Evaluation Institute publishes PIRLS 2010 mock tests

PIRLS International Study Center at the Evaluation Institute published a set of texts in both Arabic and English along with their questions and scoring guides to be distributed among the participating schools in the pilot field test which will take place in Qatar beginning mid-March 2010.
