Educational Goals
In pursuing its educational goals, our school will preserve our Qatari identity,
culture and way of life. The school will pursue the following goals:
1. Achieving Success
-
All students will achieve success through the demands of our effective
curriculum that conforms to the requirements of a comprehensive preparatory
school and aligned with the National Curriculum Standards.
-
Our School will adopt a learning system where students learn more in a shorter
time and with less effort; hence, any student can excel. The school’s success
will be measured by the value it adds to each student. Class time is utilized
for building a solid foundation of knowledge through interacting, analyzing,
forming and expressing opinions, and effective discussion. Discussions are based
on critical thinking and logical reasoning. The whole class is taught together.
2. Effective Curriculum
-
The school will provide an effective curriculum that is integrated,
sequential, and includes the teaching of age-appropriate skills, knowledge, and
values.
-
The syllabus will be specifically designed by our school to provide students
with the knowledge and skills needed to succeed in their further education. We
will design our syllabi with the concept of the Pearl.1 The unit pearl will be
aligned with the National Core Subjects' Standards. Fractions for example, will
be divided into units. Each unit is subdivided into pearls. The concept for
numerator and denominator is one pearl. Our students will have higher order of
thinking and problem solving that provides opportunities for applications of
these skills in their real-life experiences.
3. Proficiency in Literacy
-
All students will be able to achieve success of all reading and writing skills
necessary for proficiency in the Arabic and English language arts.
-
It is impossible to ignore the importance of literacy in education. Reading is
the skill upon which success in every other academic area is based. Study after
study shows that students who cannot read by age nine are unlikely to ever
become fluent readers, and have a higher tendency to drop out. We will monitor
the reading and writing skills through the comprehensive test of basic skills
conducted by the Education Institute and specific tests of our own. We will
independently research or collaborate and partner with local education
communities (such as British Council) to employ the best successful practices
employed for improving the English language literacy, and do similar
arrangements for the Arabic. Each student will improve her scores until a level,
(to be determined later) which we will maintain as the minimum threshold for the
student.
4. Proficiency in Mathematics
-
All students will be able to achieve success of computation and problem
solving skills necessary for proficiency in mathematics.
-
The importance of mathematics extends beyond the academic domain. Young people
that transition to adulthood with limited mathematical skills are likely to find
it difficult to function in society. Basic arithmetic skills are required for
everyday computations and sometimes for job applications. Most new job openings
require mathematical skills greater than the high school level, so competence in
mathematical skills is related to higher chances of employment. If students can
read and perform math, they can be successful at science and other subjects.
5. Character Building
-
Staff members will actively develop and strengthen students’ moral, ethical
and civic values through the Student Activity Organization (SAO)
-
Many teachers and administrators report that Character Education activities
have spurred significant parental involvement in school life. The payoff for
good character is that it makes the student a better person and it makes the
world a better place. We know a structure of mutual respect and responsibility
will produce students who have a strong sense of identity. Reflection and a
commitment to serving others shape both the capacity and the willingness to
excel academically. Conversation inside and outside the classroom will
intentionally center on the following six key virtues: Trustworthiness; Respect;
Responsibility; Fairness; Caring; and Citizenship.
6. Partnering with the Community
-
The School will partner with families, local school community members,
community agencies, universities and civic and business communities to promote
student achievement.
-
The community which understands the purposes and activities of the school is
better able to make decisions concerning their support and improvement and
subscribes to a policy of relations which shall promote widespread community
interest, understanding and approval of the School system and its programs.
7. Technology across Curriculum
-
The School will add value to the curriculum effectiveness through the use of
technology and ICT
-
Technology can transform the way education is delivered and open the way to a
new pedagogy. It can make it easier for teachers to plan and to find high
quality materials, and it can help pupils find out more about the subjects they
are studying. Critically, new technology can enable teachers to tailor their
teaching more closely to the abilities of individual pupils.
