Educational Plan

School Vision:
The enjoyment of learning, diversity of knowledge, superior performance, and proficiency

School Mission
Al-Wakra Secondary School is all about making choices towards their future careers. We help our students choose career paths and life directions for themselves.
The school shall foster an environment that will promote mental, social, and physical capabilities and skills through diversified curriculum and teachings that will be taught by competent teachers in partnership with their parents and the society
The school will use Islamic, Arab, and Qatari identity as bases for launching its planned educational goals to meet the SEC set standards.

Students leave school with internationally recognized qualifications based on the Supreme Education Council’s Curriculum Standards and the International Baccalaureate Diploma by 2009 while complying with ISO 2000 – 9001. SAT tests shall be furnished for the students to enable them to join internationally recognized universities in Qatar & around the world.

The school plans to become a recognized center for offering ICDL (International Computer Driving License) to the students and to the general public.

Our students develop bilingual mastery of Arabic and English, both as a means of communication, and as a way of understanding Qatari culture and its place in global civilization. Bilingual instruction is used as appropriate.

The school has a communication and media theme and focus within a quality general education framework. Our students are trained as effective communicators in both Arabic and English. Media arts and media literacy are developed to extend the students ability to communicate in multiple ways.

Students’ effectiveness as life-long learners and contributors to society is improved through our integrated approach to technology education especially as computer, communications, media and film technologies converge and play a greater role in day-to-day activities.

Accelerating change in society and the workplace makes flexibility and adaptability essential for success. Adapting is essentially a learning process. The school develops and nurtures adaptability in students as they are taught how to learn and apply their learning in various real-life contexts. Creative problem solving and willingness to experiment and explore are emphasized throughout school programs, as is the role communication plays in social change dynamics.

A critical success factor for individuals, groups and communities in the future will be their ability to deal with the increasing complexity of life. This requires not only developing individuals’ intellectual abilities, but also their ability to think collectively with others in some sort of distributed mind. Shared learning and working are fundamental to the school’s curriculum and culture. Students are developed to be able to connect to one another and think and learn collectively to address greater degrees of complexity. To succeed, these ‘connectable individuals’ must use information communication and media technology to engage in anytime, anywhere shared learning at the levels of teams, organizations and communities.

Educational Goals

  • To accomplish our mission, we are committed to implement the IB Diploma by 2009 and an ISO 9001:2000 quality management system also by 2009.
  • Learning & building skills [social (thinking, problem solving, IT, Team work, Research, communication, and interaction), handy crafts, artistic, and sport skills] while having fun in the process, through playing educational games and performing hands-on activities that guarantee learning and skills acquisition.
  • Develop the students’ values, norms, moral structure, and behavioural practices in close conjunction with the parents. Our references shall be Islamic laws, values and Arabian tradition and exceptional heritage.
  • Disciplinary and experiential approaches to Islam provide our students with understanding of Islamic disciplines as well as contributing to their spiritual and moral education. The relationship between faith and the various disciplines studied at the school is examined, in particular Quranic communication styles and language.
  • Our school is a living open learning community with a culture of excellence. It has a focus on motivating students to learn, to act and to serve their community. Engaging learning methods are utilized. These include a narrative curriculum approach focusing on exploration and project work, as well as E-Learning. A connected learning community will support student learning anywhere, anytime. Students develop a portfolio of media projects including the production of educational media material. Students and their families are encouraged to participate in school activities at many levels.
