All students in the Independent Schools and all other public and private Arabic schools in Qatar will be assessed annually in four subjects – Arabic, English, mathematics and science – through the Qatar Comprehensive Educational Assessment. These tests will be administered nationally at every grade level, with test content aligned with the new curriculum standards.

The Assessment is unique and differs in significant ways from the national exit exam and other tests currently administered in Qatar. In particular, it will not be used to determine promotion or graduation.

The first annual assessment will took place in April and May 2004 at all public and private Arabic schools. Parents are asked to ensure that their children are present for the test since it will establish the baseline for their current level of achievement. Future assessments then will be measured against this baseline, reflecting the progress of student learning. In order to ensure that students are learning the material to be included in the annual assessments, teachers in the Independent Schools will be trained on how to implement the curriculum standards in the classroom.
