"Evaluating Performance"While most educational reforms tend to focus on curricular and administrative improvments, it is imperative that there also be a highly innovative evaluation component to ensure that decision makers have access to high-quality, objective information. In the Qatar education reform effort, such information will be collected and disseminated by the state-of-the-art Evaluation Institute. Operating under the Supreme Education Council, the Institute is responsible for determining whether students and schools are attaining their goals – that is, whether students are learning and schools are educating. Consequently, the Institute has two primary roles: (1) to inform schools, teachers and students about their performance, thus helping them reflect and improve upon it, and (2) to supply information to parents and other decision-makers on the extent to which the schools are fulfilling their role. This information will assist parents in selecting the best schools for their children and allow school systems to assess the effectiveness of each individual school. Directed by Dr.Hamda Hassan Alsulaiti, the Evaluation Institute houses five offices:
UpdatesTwo Workshops on National School AccreditationSEC School Evaluation Office in the Evaluation Institute concluded a training workshop for private schools on how to prepare self-evaluation studies for the National School Accreditation. The workshop was held in hotel “La Cigale” in the presence of representatives of 61 private schools.
