Participation Requirements
Who is eligible to participate?
- Each preparatory and secondary Independent
School is permitted to enter four projects. The four
projects must come from six different subject areas: Arabic –
English – Islamic Studies- Social Studies – Science – Math or one
project can be Interdisciplinary.
- The project must be completed by a team of 3
to 5 students with one faculty advisor.
What types of competition will take place at
the Student Research Fair?
Competition and judging will be organized
into seven categories. Preparatory and secondary projects will be
judged separately:
Science, Mathematics, English, Social Studies, Arabic Studies,
Islamic Studies, Integrated Projects (Interdisciplinary)
What types of research or projects may be
entered into the competition?
Competition is open to many types of
scientific research. Investigators may use either quantitative
or qualitative research or a combination of the two. For example,
projects may be:

Experiments
-
Surveys
-
Oral histories
-
Photo/video documentaries
-
Case studies
-
Engineering projects
-
Inventions
Projects should follow acceptable standards
for scientific research. Projects that produce only “paper
research” or traditional research reports are not eligible.
Who decides which projects can go to the
Student Research Fair?
- Each preparatory and secondary Independent
School can decide how to choose the projects to send to the
Student Research Fair. (Maximum of four projects)
- It is recommended that each school sponsor a
school-based fair in which all students may participate.
- Projects entered into the school-based fair
should be evaluated by qualified judges. Based on the results of
the judging, schools should decide which four projects to enter in
the national Student Research Fair.
Will prizes and awards be given?
- Yes, three prizes will be awarded for each
category: Gold (1st); Silver (2nd), and
Bronze (3rd) for the preparatory division and three
prizes for each category for the secondary division.
What languages can be used for the research
projects?
- Science, Mathematics, English, and
Integrated projects may be done in either English or Arabic.
Projects submitted for Social Studies, Arabic Studies, and Islamic
Studies must be done in Arabic.
Judging:
Judging
research will be in first day of the fair, and it will be based on a
judging criteria that made by the fair planning committee.
Announcement
of winners and giving the awards will be on the fair second day
Students
will be asked to come early on the fair first day to set their
research.
