Qatar is committed to building a world-class
education system, maintaining the religious and national
values and identity. Increasing the variety of high quality
choices for parents and students continues to be a priority
for the Supreme Education Council (SEC). The SEC aims to do
this by introducing additional private schools into the
education system through an Educational Vouchers Program.
However, these schools should meet certain criteria to be able
to join this program that aims at improving educational
options and raising standards of achievements. Over time,
parents with children eligible for a government-funded
education will be able to use educational vouchers towards the
tuition costs in the school of their choice – either
Independent or accredited approved private schools. The
Educational Vouchers Program in Qatar will therefore serve as
an umbrella for the education system in Qatar.
This program follows the principles that guide the current
education system. Schools will remain autonomous, be held
accountable for student learning, and a variety of schooling
options will, over time, allow parents to exercise increasing
levels of choice in selecting the best school for their
children from a growing number of alternatives
A funding system similar to an Educational Vouchers Program
has operated in the Independent schools since their inception,
and the further expansion of the system to accredited private
schools and international schools brings the SEC closer to
achieving its desired goals.
